The winter solstice has just passed, trees have shed their leaves and there is snow on the hills here near Warburton, Victoria. It may be mid winter, but Nee and J’s flower arrangements are still bursting with beauty and alive with colour.
I truly love the flower arrangements by Nee and J. Renee and her son gather the flora from their back yard, friends’ gardens and the local surrounds. Seasonal “Slow flowers” aren’t mass produced or grown in hothouses. “I just use what I find” Renee tells me. By choosing fresh, locally grown plants and flowers Renee’s slow flowers keep much longer and, I would say, look and feel much nicer.
When it comes to deciding how to arrange the flowers Renee says “I let the flowers tell me”.
Her flowers have an added texture and depth due to the vast array of flora used including: succulents, dried seed pods, leaves, grasses, sticks and lichen. They fill our house adding colour, scent and life to every room. Even when they start to wilt and dry it’s hard to throw them out. If you have a rustic wedding planned, I believe Renee’s flowers would be the perfect addition.
Slow flowers allow us to get back to basics and appreciate the seasons that are so vital to life.

4 Jul 2017You are right Larry – ‘slow’ flowers are real and earthy – reminds me of my childhood during the 50s & 60s where such floral arrangements were just the norm!
